It's Not So Bad... Bad...
|
|
Fine, fine. SM was not the large pit of angstness and unfun as one would
have expected it to be. While I still feel that it is not my favorite
month of the year, it wasn't so bad this time around. Well, there were
some things... and the wisdom teeth extraction and all. Whatevs, it's now
month three, and we're nearing the Groundhog Day of March: Casimir Pulaski
Day. Is that even a state holiday anymore? I guess it's technically the
first Monday in March, so we have a few days to figure it out. On the road
to recovery, Tuesday afternoon and evening, I grew increasingly exhausted.
So, is that what surgery does to someone. I was getting grumpier and more
upset at the Amazing Race as the night progressed. I was tired, and it
wasn't as interesting as I'd wanted it to be, but, well, it was the first
episode. On the walk home from the bus stop, my eyes were closed 80% of the
time. Yeah, tired. Wednesday, I slept in (as best as I could), even after
waking up naturally at 5am. That was rather upsetting. So I turned on the
radio and went back to sleep. I caught up on the Monday TV I'd missed and
made my way to campus for lunch. It was my first attempt at non-squishy
food: I went to Murphy's and had the Wednesday special (a bacon mega
cheeseburger and fries) with a cherry Mountain Dew. It took considerably
longer for me to eat than normal, but that's expected. My lunch was
followed by my 2nd smoothie in as many days from Smoothie King. I went to
work for a bit, but I was tired and acting "stupid"... I think my inner
exhaustedness was finally getting the better of me, despite my intentions
of being a productive member of society so quickly after the ordeal. So,
with the blessing of my supervisor, I left work and crashed at a friend's
place... after getting my third Shamrock shake. I think what it boils down
to is that I'm wanting to do too much without getting all the rest I should
be getting, and since I'm not eating as much as I normally do, I'm still
tired. Last night, I made a trip to the mall to see Brittany and Joe from
Beauty and the Geek 2 before having a little dinner (my first attempt at
chicken since being in hiding). And, with more than an hour to go in the
day, I slept. My sleep schedule's not quite normal. I woke up at two in
the morning before heading back to sleep. Sleeping early did mean it was
easier for me to wake up at five to "do research." I went back to sleep
and was awake again around eight, where Q96 was giving away Ashlee Simpson
tickets. I don't really know if I care, but it had been a while since I'd
tried to win something, and the day before, they were taking the first
caller through who knew the answer to some random trivia question. For the
early birds, they put the question and answer up on their website from five
to six. That's the research I did before going back to sleep. Well,
anyways, it was time to play for tickets today, and I was stunned! They
did not want the first caller... they wanted the fifth caller! Being caller
number one is skill; anything else is just luck, so I thought my sure-fire
win was out the window. Sure enough, I was caller number one. I called
back, got a busy signal, tried one more time, and got through. Yep, I was
caller number five. Oh, Brian. That's the excitement in my life. I have
my wisdom teeth extraction followup checkup appointment in about an hour.
Then, I'll be at work, and hopefully, I'll be productive and un-tired.
Such is the magic life of Brian.

Yeah, Unsmooth
|
|
In my frantic rush to get things done last week before Brian's Spring Break
of a Lifetime 2006 (yeah, we'll get there), I made a very quick posting that
never actually made its way onto that fine thing we call the internet. I'd
made the stupid error of placing the file in a place in which it did not
belong. Fear not, the document did not contain social security numbers, so
if anyone'd magically found the file, your identity has not been compromised
thanks to me. (For that to happen, you'd have to be an unlucky student or
alum of the Computer Science department... and fortunately, I am
un-unlucky.) To resolve this issue, the file has been placed in the "done"
location, even though, as of this writing, it hasn't been done, and in a few
hours, the situation takes care of itself. I know, it's crazy untechnical
technical jargon. If you really want to know the specifics, I can explain
the news.sg standardized naming and organizational scheme. Let me know. As
for this nonsensical insight of the background of news.sg, I'll just keep it
confined to this entry, unless other circumstances warrant otherwise.

Random Administrivia
|
Sometimes, there are those random things that come up, and, as a follower
of Brian's life, you'd like to know about them, but, really, now... they
don't all deserve an individual article. That, or Brian's been lazy.
Either way, here are some things of note.
- In February, I won one of those "drop your business card" contests,
scoring me 10 burritos from Chipotle.
- I eventually was given the squirty thing that people usually get when
they get their wisdom teeth out. This happened at the follow-up appointment
three days after the surgery. I opened it days later and just played with
it. Let the record show that I did not take any medication for pain.
- I'm poor. Buying White Sox
tickets in December and Cubs tickets in
February does that sort of thing. So does buying tickets for friends to
see Yo-Yo Ma, even if they're paying you back.
- Sidenote: I still don't know if I'm going to go to that.
- On the day my teeth were removed, my old Kran boss and great guy, Jim
started work at his new job, back at UIUC. I know, it's not about me, but
some of you know him.
- While never explicitly banned, you may take "Chef Boyardee" food product off of
the "foods Brian's never had" list. I was served some mini-ravioli by
Jeanna. The occasion was captured on film.
- Unrelated to food, Brian is now behind 1-0 in a Chutes and Ladders
challenge.
- I kinda want to sing again. Like in an ensemble or chorus of sorts.
- Brittany and Joe didn't win. Sigh of disappointment.
- I never would have imagined spending three and a half hours at Hometown Buffet, but, hey, just like
plastics, breakfast makes it possible. Especially when it becomes lunch
while you're there.
- Why, yes, it is possible to eat three breakfast burritos, one large
order of tater tots with cheese, a large cherry limeade, and a quart of ice
cream in less than two hours. I felt unwell, but it was unrelated to food
consumption.
- Q96 had a "First Annual World's
Shortest St. Patrick's Day Parade" that ran from Subway on Green Street to
Murphy's. Why, yes, they're virtually right next to each other. Why, yes,
it was short. And, by showing up and participating, I got free noisemakers
and a free shirt!
- "Prime": Eh, it
disappointed me. The first part was kind of fun and interesting to see.
Which just happened to be what the trailers were...
- "Ice Princess": Well,
I was pleased. Exceeded expectations, which were average. It was just
another story, but a refreshing and fun one to watch. I don't feel as if I
wasted my time.
- Oh, Illinois Men's Basketball. I am disappointed. There goes my fine
showing in Punk Freakin Madness.
- I heart Dental Insurance. My January visit: $15.
- Bradley: Good showing! Good job! George Mason: Brilliant!
- Thing I'm looking forward to: riding the "new" CTA rail line this summer.
- Thing I got excited about: I saw that That's Rentertainment has On The Line" with some guys
from N*Sync. Oh, you know it's going to be cheesy and not all that, but it
involves those Chicago elevated trains (get it... "on the line!") so it's
still on that to-do list.
I think that covers most of the random things that have happened in the
last month or so. I've also been saying "I'm going to cry on the inside"
and "Hot" a lot lately, in addition to "Presh". I'm also circulating "tevs"
when I get the chance. Hope that fills you in! Spring Break of a Lifetime
2006 coming up... after it officially ends.
