The Happenings
License to Drive
Not only is a certain Melanie old this past week... she's also driveable.
Just before the six year mark following the you-can-drive age as designated
by the state of Illinois, msteinbe drove a little bit for a road test at
the fine Champaign driver's license facility and passed! Congrats!
A Tour of the Center
With the center section of the Krannert Center lobby being out of commission
due to a floor refinishing, it made giving a tour of the building a most
intersting experience. I, yes, me, gave two tours, and I ended up using
Main Street as an underpass and the Amphitheatre as an overpass over the
closed territory. It was very fun - especially when I took people climbing
up and over the Great Hall. Always a good time - a Brian tour, I highly
recommend it. Didn't even throw in a seven-stair special!
Security Confessional
I quickly tip-toed through my closed office to get to the closed coat
check area to get a time card I had to turn in before I left for the
weekend. No teak was injured in the incident.
Return to the Homeland
I spent the weekend at home, up in Hillside where my Aurora bank statements
get sent. Not that there should be a reason to go home, but I was there
for a now-annual family party hosted by my house. You see, my brother,
sister, and I all have summer birthdays. We each used to have a party in
our respective birth months, but since people are old now, and we do.. stuff,
it has become a single summer gathering. And since I'm older comparitively,
I didn't cash in. =) But it was cool to see the cousins and all, and even
more cool to meet my 6.5 month old Nathan for the first time. Wow. Nephew.
Uncle. Old.
Second Scorecard
Friday was like a vacation day. It's rare that I ever experience a day with
no real committments to anyone - so I spent my day hard at work scoring the
Colorado Rockies / Chicago Cubs from a seat in the Friendly Confines of
Wrigley Field. My sister and I were disappointed that, of all the foul balls,
none of them came even remotely close to us. It was a great game - Kerry Wood
was pitching, and with thirteen strikeouts, was in line to claim a win.
Unfortunately, the closer blew it (and got credited with a BS - Blown Save) and
the game went on into extra innings. I sent my sister to go by a second
scorecard because I was running out of room (space for 10 innings only), in
case I needed it.. and I did. With so many changes at the end, I really needed
it. Four hours after the start, and after five hours at the ballpark, the Cubs
did go home with a win. Good times.
Reunited and We Ate Some Food
Just seconds after arriving in my Urbana abode, former roommate Michelle left
the Melrose confines. But, after a cell phone, we were reunited. The residents
of 621 less Hedonism plus two went to Damons for some fine "trivial" dining.
Being back only made me realize... "just five more nights!" Michelle may be
back one last time this weekend... We shall see.
Homeless Outlook
The office I reside in at Krannert has reopened! As far as residential
homelessness goes, I will take up residence at the siblings' place before
I can officially move into the new home on Green Streeet! I look forward
to being walking distance away from everything again... it's kinda exciting.
Unfortunately, I haven't started that daunting task of packing. Doh!
Still Open During Construction
Actually, Green Street is open... except for Westbound between Sixth and Fifth.
But the buses are still wrong. I wonder if the route changes for Wright Street
are becoming permanent, since they built in planters of greenness in the middle
of the street to close off that "Bus Only" area. We will just have to wait for
the new bus schedules to see when they come out this weekend (most likely).
Actually Watched a Movie
"Evolution" (2001): The world gets hit with some alien life that super-quickly
evolves into the evil alien forms that will certainly change life as we know
it.. I mean destroy life as we know it. They'll take over the world, and to
ruin it all, David Duchovny and crew do save the day. It was cool. Not VERY
good. Not bad. A delight to watch, but surely glad I didn't pay to see it.
Of course, I like to know where my money goes, as you know.
"Whatever It Takes" (2000): Yet another teenage high school love movie that's
predictable but not horrible. It didn't really make me go "Awww...", but the
lead guy having issues goes by "Brian" for part of it. How's that for
identifying with the characters? Angst, betrayal, and gets the girl.
"Awww..."
"The Real World: The Lost Season" (2002): This is the fictional story of
seven actors picked to make a movie where you find out what happens with
fans go psycho and all television producing heck breaks loose. Those silly
Vancouver kids. Disappointing. And even more disappointing was the fictional
story of seven REAL real world former cast members hanging out in a room for
90 minutes. But that's okay, kinda entertaining, and you still wanted to know
what was going to happen. At least its first showing was without commercial
interruption. Thanks, pHisoderm! Just snap the tip, and watch the medicine
flow through!
"the list"
empty - there could be a change soon? maybe not.

The Happenings
Moving
What can I say... moving sucks. I am now moved out of the Melrose complex
up on North Lincoln, and, this week I'm taking up temporary residence at
the family Urbana location. I'd say two thirds of my stuff is already at
my future residence, and the rest of it - mostly random junk, is here with
me. The notable exception of property is the famed "Big Red Chair" which
still currently exists on the old Melrose balcony. I'll be back to reclaim
it sometime after I really move in, most likely. But, yeah, moving sucked.
It's done now... at least the part where I was living there. Michelle came
back for a hour or two Saturday to move her stuff out in totality, and
Dyanna and I left Monday evening after a long day of packing, cleaning, and
moving. Best of luck to the new roommate for the leftover.
Not Moving
The flow of liquid funds was not at such an adequate level to allow me to
feel comfortable roaming around the country in this lull before things really
start up on campus. I really need to make money and not spend it as much as
I would if I did visit random people across the country. Sorry!
Administrivia
Changes of address have already been sent and processed by the United States
Postal Service, MBNA, Capital One, Paypal, UIUC payroll/ph, IMSA ph, gandi.net,
csoft.net, and Cingular so far. If you need to find/contact me, the
traditional methods you've used before will still work, except my -1486 phone
number. Mail is forwarded as appropriate. For the complete contact stuff,
email me and I'll pass it along as deemed necessary after proper credentials
and security clearance is filed. =)
Summary?
Basically, I am just _so_ glad that this part of the moving process is done,
and that I'm not where I was before. And I'm happy with where I'll be.
Green Street
It's open. All directions. The Green Bus goes down Green Street! Whoa!
Oh, and new Champaign-Urbana bus schedules go into effect Sunday. Pick
up your collectable limited edition 2002-2003 schedule today!
Not the Smarter Child
There is another AIM screen name you can message if you're bored. Say
anything, and it will respond with garbage. It's trained on what you and
what other people have said. Oh, the potential for horrbile sentences and
obscenities. If you're into that, or just bored, "hyper franz" (one word)
should be waiting... Don't say I didn't warn you.
Actually Watched a Movie
"Clear and Present Danger" (1994): It was okay. Not bad. Long. Not "Shindler's
List" long. I never saw titanic. Reportedly, it's good about basically
following Tom Clancy's book, but it's still not the same. Don't use it as a
replacement to reading the book for book reports. No issue or issue-feeling
implications were had by watching this film. I was tired. I moved everything
earlier in the day. It did keep my attention. Eh.
"the list"
empty - an increase in population may lead to increased probability. whatever.

The Happenings
The Un-Trivia
Thursday, I was inspired to go to BW3 and take Zach along for yet another
rousing round of that high-stress trivia game, Six, brought to you by the NTN
network (www.ntnnetwork.com). So, we
got there a good two hours before Six which was at Eight at Six if you didn't
catch that. (Ha, ha, read that again and again!) Much to our surprise, at
Seven, a game not on the weekly schedule started running. It was QB1 - a guess
the football play kind of game. Zach was loving it. And, oddly enough, when
it wa all said and done, I finished third after the three hour competition.
In my case, it was mostly luck and my love for guessing "Pass - Short - Right".
Zach ended second. As an addendum to the group trivia players, the man atop
most lists plays as two, and almost achieved a double-perfect score.
Ghetto Old School
Nothing takes you back like hanging out with similarly aged friends, turning
on Nickelodeon's GAS (Games and Sports) Digital Cable Network, and watching
Double Dare. Not Family Double, or anything... Classical Double from the
1987 Era. There was none of this "This was filmed at Nickelodeon Studios,
at Universal Studios, Orlando, Florida." It was kinda bizarre. Thanks,
Piotr... that took me back. I always wanted to be on Double Dare. Instead,
I just won a Nickelodeon call-in contest once, winning a Looney Toons watch
while watching "Hey Dude!".
Temporary Housing
It has been quite a pleasure living in the temporary housing that is my
brother and sister's apartment. However, I really can't wait to move into
the new place at the official residence for next year. I am very eager to
set things up into the good old Brian room of craziness, complete with "Big
Red Chair" (which still needs to be moved from Melrose) and inflatable Coke
Can. Funding and time permitting, maybe I'll buy a video camera and record
snips of life in documentary style. Perhaps, I'll set up a confessional area
as well.
Stop the Spam
All of a sudden, I seem to actually be receiving spam on a regular basis. I
don't like it, and this madness must stop! In an effort to figure out who is
leaking the info, from a corporate entity sense, I have purchased yet another
domain, specifically "2o9.com", to field all commercial endeavour. I've
decided to give each website I visit a different email address from 2o9.com
so, when I start receiving crap from an email address, I'll know who sold
me out. Hopefully, I can make people FEEL IT! All will be good in due time.
Weekend of Honey
I made the most of my weekend without responsibility by sitting online and
playing TumbleBees at pogo.com. When that got boring, I would switch over
to Minesweeper. It was a very productive weekend. I did leave the apartment
a few times to get some food, and I did spend Saturday evening at the High
Street Establishment (formerly known as 709) and played a game there. Now
I look forward to doing more stuff. I can feel the activity coming at me.
FEEL IT!
Prize Tally
August begins a new year in prize winning madness. Monday morning, I picked
up the CU Cityview from Thursday, August 16, and looked for the little lines
that say "Enter to Win Movie Tickets". So, I researched the answer, sent it
in (the drawing was Monday), and, hours later, I got an email saying I won!
Thanks, CU Cityview
(www.cucityview.com)!
Squatting Rights
Thanks to my brother, Mark, who went on the mission to claim my apartment
keys. While the new residence is not ready for me quite yet, Mark was able
to claim the keys for me while I was at work on Monday. The current plan
is to at least move my crap into a storage space in totality. And then,
maybe, someday, I can make my unpacking dreams come true.
Random Chance
How well do you fare in randomly picking winners to college football games?
You should head over to espn.com and play... you'll have a chance to win
a TV! What more could you ask for for being the person whose randomly
selected winners wins the most, besting the other thousands of people who
picked winners thinking they knew what was good for them? Go to
games.espn.go.com and go play games.
Specifically, the College Football Pick-Em game. Search for the group
"Punk Freakin Madness" and the password to join is "FEEL IT!" Have fun,
and make your guesses beat down the rest of them with sticks.
Trivia Tuesday
Tuesday night trivia resumed with a group of seven taking on food and the
one named Irish. Good times were had by all... It sucked that their credit
card processing thing was broken, though. Don't they know I don't carry
loads of cash around?
Actually Watched a Movie
Actually, I didn't. =)
"the list"
